Photo Native Lifestyle Newborn Shoot

In January I was able to attend a photography conference from Photo Native that was 3 days long. Wow. What an incredible uplifting experience it was. I am so grateful my cute hubby stayed home with the kids for three days so that I could learn and grow.

The first day we got to do an actual photo shoot with a professional photographer. I chose to do the lifestyle newborn photo shoot...of course! It was with Tracy Layne. She is a Utah photographer that is incredibly talented. She taught us so much not only about posing, but also a lot about lighting.

As you already know, my style is bright and airy photos, almost like the film look. I drool over soft shadows and pastel colors! Although most of our shoot was taken place in an all white studio with gorgeous natural light, she wanted to challenge us and teach us something new. She took us into a back room in the studio where the walls were soooo dark I think they were a super dark blue almost looking black, and all light the room had was a TINY little window in the very top of the wall in the corner. My first thought was when she took us in there to shoot was; I'll just pretend like I know what I'm doing. This isn't my style or what I want to do, so i'll just humor her and pretend;) ....well, after seeing what stunning shots others were getting I decided to step in a try to create a stunning image as well. I snapped a photo and SHOCKED myself. I almost fell over dead looking at the image I had just taken on the back of my camera.

Needless to say, I couldn't stop shooting this beautiful mama and baby in this tiny dark little room that scared the crap out of me. I would never had thought to even give the room a try on my own. I would have avoided it at all cost. Now, because of this experience I am not afraid of low light situations and have full confidence in it! I can't choose a favorite photo. I'm still in love with the bright and airy photos we took and just as much in love with the dark moody photos as well.

Decide for yourself which you like better!

The other two days were full of all day classes from different incredible photographers. They taught business basics, and also some really inspirational things as to why they do what they do. I have thought about why I do what I do, and in the back of my mind I always knew the "why" to why I started photography, but Photo Native helped me remember that again. I will share in a later blog post my "why."

In the meantime, take a look at this cute family. Which style is your favorite? Comment below and let me know, I would love to see your opinions!
